On October 13, the sixth China-EU Film Festival’s “Meet China” special event took place at the European Times Cultural Center in Paris. This event was co-organized by Communication University of China and the European Times Cultural Media Group.
In his opening remarks, Zhong Cheng, President of the European Times Cultural Media Group, emphasized the festival’s role as a bridge for cultural exchange between China and the EU, fostering understanding and friendship among the peoples of both regions. He highlighted the power of visual storytelling, noting that film transcends language and cultural barriers, allowing diverse emotions, dreams, and narratives to be shared with the world. The “Meet China” special event serves as a window to showcase a vibrant and multifaceted China through a carefully curated selection of visual works for the French audience.
Hu Fang, Deputy Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Communication University of China, remarked that since its inception, the China-EU Film Festival has been dedicated to discovering and supporting outstanding original visual works from both China and Europe. She stated that the festival promotes international communication and cooperation through the medium of film, fostering mutual understanding between peoples.
This year, the festival committee established the “Meet China” special unit specifically to explore the diversity and richness of Chinese audiovisual works. As this year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, Hu expressed her belief that these films could serve as a cultural bridge, enhancing French audiences’ understanding of Chinese cinema and culture, and promoting Sino-French friendship.
Wang Jian, Minister-Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in France, attended the event and congratulated the organizers on its success. He encouraged attendees, particularly young people in France, to experience China firsthand, emphasizing the need for greater communication and exchange in today’s world.
During the event, a variety of films were screened, including “Traveling China by Train: The Road to Openness,” “Digital Adventures of China Travel,” “Living in China: Oliver Granjon,” “Xinjiang: A Great Place – The Fantastic Tianma,” “Walking China: The Elephant Migration,” and “Decoding the Cultural Genes of China – Season 2: The Mongolian Horse.”
The atmosphere was lively during the event, especially during a discussion featuring Hugo Tostain, Producer at Flair Media Group and producer of the Sino-French co-produced documentary “Discovering Mount Tai,” alongside French documentary director Karim Houfaïd, known for “Chinese Laborers in World War I.” They engaged in a dialogue about “Contemporary Chinese Visual Documentation.”
