The third Yuetulu Book Fair, themed “Reading in the New Era, Creating My Splendor,” officially kicked off on the evening of October 9th at the Orange Isle Fireworks Square in Changsha.

During the opening night, a vibrant mix of book promoters, writers, and editors gathered to share their literary experiences. Singer Shang Wenjie captivated the audience with her theme “Passion Becomes Wind,” highlighting how reading has nurtured her dreams and ambitions. Meanwhile, author Zhang Jiajia offered insights from his popular works like “Passing Through Your World” and “A Little Shop by the Cloud,” shedding light on his creative process. Web novelist Tang Jia San Shao discussed the incredible courage that can be found in the realm of online literature. Additionally, Chen Liqi, an academician from the Norwegian Polar Institute, delivered an engaging presentation titled “The Chinese Dream in the World of Ice and Snow,” revealing lesser-known narratives from China’s polar scientific expeditions. Young editor Yu Mengmeng from the Central South Publishing Group spoke passionately about the dedication of generations of publishers that has propelled the “Publishing Xiang Army” to prominence.

The event underscored the rising popularity of online literature among younger audiences. During the ceremony, the inaugural China Online Literature Brand List was revealed, featuring categories like the Elite Author List, Rising Author List, Literary Websites Prospective List, and Online Literature IP Brand List. This initiative, supported by the Chinese Writers’ Association and curated by experts from the Central South University Online Literature Research Institute and Central South Publishing Group, aims to elevate the mainstream appeal, quality, and branding of Chinese online literature.

In addition to these announcements, the 2.0 version of the Hunan Digital Farmers’ Book House was launched, offering over 50,000 digital resources across various topics, including specialized publishing, local特色, agricultural science, children’s literature, and lifestyle encyclopedias. This platform seeks to enhance rural reading through digital access, expanding cultural outreach to numerous households.

Throughout the book fair, attendees can look forward to a series of themed activities. These include a public reading campaign titled “Learning Party History and Remembering Our Original Intent,” the “Me and My Country” educational program, the release of “The Complete Works of Wang Kaiyun,” an academic seminar, a celebration of the 30th anniversary of “The Story of the Clumsy Wolf,” a science outreach initiative called “Light of Science, Illuminate the Future,” and the 2024 “Youth Reading Action” program. Both online and offline, events will feature activities such as a “Paper Museum” flash mob, a new rural reading season, cycling events searching for “Good Books,” and 100 online live broadcasts named “Good Books at the Foot of Yuelu Mountain,” all designed to spark a love for reading throughout the city.

Since its inception in 2022, the Yuetulu Book Fair has grown in popularity, drawing an increasing number of readers and establishing itself as a cultural symbol of Hunan. This year’s fair is supported by the Hunan Provincial Propaganda Department and hosted by the Hunan Publishing Investment Holding Group and Central South Publishing Group.
