On October 24, the Chengdu Municipal Football Association announced that the 2024 CFA China Team “Panda Cup” International Football Championship is set to take place from November 13 to 19, 2024, at the Chengdu Shuangliu Sports Center Stadium. This year, the U19 national teams from China, Australia, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia will compete in the tournament.
The “Panda Cup” International Football Championship was established by Chengdu in 2014 as an international youth football event. From 2014 to 2019, the tournament was held six consecutive times, featuring four U18 to U22 national teams each year, with China serving as the host team.
Over the years, the organizing committee of the “Panda Cup” has extended invitations to teams from countries such as Brazil, England, Croatia, Japan, and Uruguay. Numerous players who have played in major leagues and the Chinese Super League have participated in the event.
The 2024 tournament marks the seventh edition of the “Panda Cup,” featuring four U19 national teams (born in 2005). The Chinese U19 team, referred to as China U19, will be the host team for this championship.
Currently, the China U19 team is gearing up for the U20 Asian Cup, which will be hosted in China in February 2025. The squad, led by Serbian coach Djurjevic, plans to arrive in Chengdu ahead of time for training camp. The “Panda Cup” will serve as a vital preparatory event for the team’s participation in the U20 Asian Cup.
Joining the competition are the U19 teams from Australia, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia. Notably, both Australia and Kyrgyzstan have made it to the finals of the U20 Asian Cup.
On non-match days, participating teams will be invited to engage in football cultural exchange activities at designated schools in Chengdu, providing opportunities for local youth to interact with them.
