-Tanmei- is far away from Hainan Island and some scenic spots in Sanya are still closed for business

On October 27, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued an update indicating that Typhoon “Tammei,” the 20th typhoon of the year, made landfall at 10:40 AM near the coastal area between Da Nang and Hue in Vietnam. While “Tammei” continues to move away from Hainan Island, its weakened remnants, combined with cold air, have led to the temporary closure of several tourist attractions in Sanya on the same day.

The winds from the typhoon caused significant disruption in Sanya, with tree branches and leaves strewn across city streets, hindering traffic. Municipal workers have been actively engaged in cleanup efforts following a night of strong winds. According to monitoring by the Hainan Provincial Meteorological Observatory, gusts of wind of up to level 11 were recorded along the eastern and southern coasts of Hainan Island between 8 AM on the 26th and 7 AM on the 27th, with the highest recorded gust in Sanya’s Jiyang District reaching 31.8 meters per second.

Throughout the morning of the 27th, Sanya experienced continuous rain. The intense winds had knocked over certain barriers in the streets, and fallen branches impeded some urban traffic, prompting urgent cleanup by city workers. Tourist attractions near the coast, such as the Xihai Ocean Cultural Tourism Zone, Dadonghai Beach, and Wuzhizhou Island, announced their closures due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions.

Looking ahead, the Sanya Meteorological Bureau forecasts that from 8 AM on the 27th to 8 PM on the 30th, the cumulative rainfall could reach between 150 to 250 millimeters, with localized areas possibly seeing up to 300 millimeters. Wind speeds of 8 to 9 levels and gusts of 10 to 11 levels are expected over the eastern and southern seas of Sanya, along with the Xisha Islands during the day on the 27th. Winds will gradually weaken to levels 7 to 8 with gusts of 9 to 10 by the night of the 27th until the 29th.
