Sudden! Train collision in Egypt kills 1 and injures at least 20

On October 13, a train collision occurred in Egypt’s Minya province, resulting in one fatality and injuring at least 20 others, as reported by the Associated Press.

According to a statement from the Egyptian National Railways, the incident took place approximately 270 kilometers south of Cairo. It was caused when a locomotive collided with the rear of a train traveling from Aswan to Cairo, leading to two carriages being detached and subsequently falling into a nearby waterway.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health released another statement indicating that, besides the one death, at least 21 individuals were transported to hospitals. Initial examinations revealed that the injuries were primarily bruises and abrasions, with 19 individuals treated and discharged.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.

This marks the second train collision in North Africa within a month. In September 2024, two passenger trains collided in a city within the Nile Delta, resulting in at least three deaths.
