In a tragic incident that unfolded early on the morning of October 21 in Fall City, Washington, a family of seven was devastated by gun violence, leaving five dead and one injured. A 15-year-old boy is suspected of shooting his father, Mark Humiston, a 42-year-old software engineer, his mother Sarah, and three of his siblings, while one sister managed to escape the horrific scene.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, the family was discovered shot to death in their luxurious countryside home by Lake Alice, located approximately 30 miles east of Seattle.

While authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims or confirmed their relationships, neighbors reported that the teenage suspect was responsible for the tragic events. The escaping sister, who was shot twice, received assistance from neighbors and was subsequently hospitalized. Officials stated her condition is “satisfactory.”

Mark Humiston was originally from Texas and had worked for nearly two decades as a vice president at Hargis Engineers in Seattle. The family purchased their expansive three-bedroom, four-bathroom home in 2019.

Earlier reports confirmed that three minors were among the deceased, and a 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody. Mike Mellis, a spokesperson for the King County Sheriff’s Office, indicated that multiple 911 calls prompted police to respond to the scene around 5 a.m. They apprehended the suspect and rushed the injured sister to the hospital.

Upon entering the home, officers discovered five bodies, including two adults and three children. Mellis described the scene as “obviously the site of a heinous crime.”

According to the spokesperson, it appears that the incident involved family members, although the specifics of their relationships are still unclear. There is no ongoing threat to the community, and authorities report that no further arrests are anticipated.

The suspect is currently being held at the King County Juvenile Detention Center. His attorneys, Amy Parker and Molly Campera, stated that he enjoyed mountain biking and fishing and had no prior criminal record.

Lynne Trowern, a neighbor, expressed her shock to the local news, saying, “I’m completely horrified and in tears. I can’t stay here alone; I keep seeing the kids’ faces.” She recounted seeing the children playing in front of their garage just the day before.

Local council member Sarah Perry noted that the tragic events occurred within the Alice Lake community and that family survivors are now being cared for by relatives.

Sheriff Patricia Cole-Tindall shared her sorrow, stating, “I am deeply saddened and very unsettled” by the incident, adding that her team will thoroughly investigate to clarify the facts. Initial investigations categorize the case as one of “domestic violence.”

After being shot, the injured girl was able to flee to a neighbor’s house for help. FOX 13 Seattle reported that she was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment and her condition was deemed “satisfactory.”

Residents who lived nearby described the Humiston children as well-mannered and homeschooled, often helping their parents and neighbors. Many recalled seeing the family taking daily walks around the lake together.

Washington State Police have been called in to handle the crime scene, with investigations being led by the King County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit.
