In a recent seminar designed to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals, pilots and industry leaders in Nigeria shared their insights on how young individuals can launch their careers in aviation, while also urging the government to improve training opportunities within the sector.

At the 8th Explore Aviation Careers Conference and the second Pilots Seminar, held at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s Annex in Lagos, Capt. Chris Najomo, the acting Director General of the NCAA, highlighted the significance of focus and a desire to learn for students chasing their professional dreams. He pointed out that the aviation industry is brimming with opportunities, especially as thousands of pilots retire worldwide.

When discussing financial support for training, Capt. Najomo encouraged students to engage with their state governments, assuring them of assistance in securing funding for their educational needs.

Victoria Adegbe, the Chief Executive Officer of Aviatrix Hub and a seasoned Flight Dispatcher and Instructor, shared her personal journey, illustrating how her relentless quest to expand her knowledge led to her current achievements in the field.

Capt. Kayode Adaje of Arik Air called on Nigerian airlines to strengthen their training programs for emerging pilots and other industry professionals. He motivated the youth by sharing success stories, including Rotimi Adeoye, the only Nigerian Captain of an A350 at Ethiopian Airlines, who also made history as the youngest captain on the continent.

Dr. Capt. Alex Nwuba, President of the Aircraft Owners Association of Nigeria, conveyed the unique thrill that comes with flying, remarking that pilots experience the world from a perspective vastly different from that of those on the ground.

Lastly, Mrs. Joy Ogbebor of MamaJ Aviation, the event organizer, stressed the critical importance of young people gathering accurate information before making career choices, which was a primary motivator behind the seminar.
