Ehi Braimah, a prominent media practitioner, public relations expert, and the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Naija Times, an independent online newspaper, recently received the prestigious Chancellor’s Alumni Award from the University of Roehampton in London. This recognition honors the university’s 90,000 global alumni. Braimah was one of only three Nigerians among the 20 award recipients, recognized specifically for his outstanding achievements with the Alumni Innovation and Inspiration Award.
The award ceremony, held on October 22, 2024, at the university campus, highlighted Braimah’s significant contributions to promoting balanced and evidence-based reporting, particularly during pivotal events such as the 2023 presidential election. The citation presented during the ceremony noted, “Braimah is a prominent voice for political and economic reforms, maintaining rigorous standards of journalism and fighting corruption.”
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Richard Keogh, who represented Vice Chancellor Prof. Jean-Noel Ezingeard, spoke at the event, emphasizing the university’s long and proud history dating back to the 1840s. “Roehampton is a special place, and I am truly delighted to welcome you to the 2024 Chancellor’s Alumni Awards. Our vibrant global alumni network continues to grow, and today we celebrate the remarkable achievements of Roehampton alumni,” he stated. Keogh also expressed gratitude to the university’s generous donor community and mentioned the success of the mentoring program benefiting over 400 students.
Eleanor Merrick, the Director of Business Development, Fundraising, and Alumni Relations, who founded the Roehampton alumni association a decade ago, remarked on the significance of gathering award recipients from various countries to celebrate their achievements and foster long-lasting relationships.
During the ceremony, Braimah presented two copies of Naija Times’ book, “For a Better Society,” to Prof. Keogh for the university’s library. Although the University of Roehampton received its university title from the Privy Council 20 years ago, it has roots as four colleges for 183 years. The event was attended by other notable members of the university, including Prof. Sunitha Narendran and Prof. Dan Nunan.
After earning his MBA from the University of Roehampton in 2016, Braimah has shown an unwavering commitment to excellence within his professional career, launching multiple media platforms. As the publisher of Naija Times, he has significantly impacted Nigerian media, driving thought leadership and insightful journalism, especially through his column.
In addition to his media endeavors, Braimah serves as the Deputy President of the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC), playing a crucial role in strengthening business ties between Nigeria and the United States. His dedication to both media and international commerce exemplifies his versatile leadership across different sectors.
The Chancellor’s Alumni Award celebrates exceptional achievements and innovative contributions made by Roehampton graduates worldwide. Alongside his business and media responsibilities, Braimah is also an active leader within Rotary International, currently serving as an Assistant Governor and chairing the Public Image Committee of Rotary International District 9112. His commitment to community service and improving Rotary’s public image underscores his passion for making a meaningful difference both locally and globally.
