On October 26, the 10th Laozi Yuandian Cultural Forum took place in the birthplace of Laozi, Luyi County, Henan Province. Over 100 experts and scholars from more than 50 research institutions, including prestigious universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University, gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on contemporary global dissemination of Laozi’s cultural contributions.
Luyi County holds significant historical importance as the birthplace of the great philosopher and founder of Daoism, Laozi. In recent years, the county has been actively promoting its four key cultural brands: the hometown of Laozi, the source of Daoism, the ancestral home of Taoism, and the roots of the Li family, fostering the creative transformation and innovative development of outstanding traditional Chinese culture.
Li Tongxin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Henan Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, emphasized at the forum that Laozi, as one of China’s earliest and greatest philosophers, has a profound and extensive philosophical system. His ideas have had a tremendous influence not only on Chinese culture but also deeply impacted various aspects of Western society, including politics, economy, technology, culture, management, and ecology. He believes this academic forum will positively contribute to further research on Laozi’s philosophies and enhance the dissemination and impact of Laozi’s culture.
The theme of this forum is “Inheriting and Transforming Laozi’s Culture, Innovating the Development of ‘Dao’ and ‘De’ Spirit.” Over two days, participants will explore multiple topics, including the practical value of Laozi’s cultural tenets, the significance and approaches for the innovative transformation of Laozi’s culture, explorations into Laozi’s life and teachings, the formation and development of Laozi’s cultural ideals, and the contemporary global dissemination of Laozi’s cultural messages.
Zhang Jianhui, Secretary of the Zhoukou Municipal Committee, expressed hope that this forum would serve as a catalyst for experts and scholars to delve deeper into the essence of Laozi’s cultural teachings and contribute to the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture.
