Metropolitan draw Minaya allowed 1 run in 7 innings to suppress the Phillies

In Game 3 of the National League Division Series, the New York Mets achieved a 7-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, taking a 2-1 lead in the series. Key performances came from Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker, who both hit home runs, and starting pitcher Sean Manaea, who delivered an impressive 7-inning outing, allowing just one run.

Phillies ace Aaron Nola faced challenges early on, as Alonso launched a solo shot to right field in the second inning, giving the Mets an early lead. Winker followed suit in the fourth inning with another solo home run to right. By the sixth inning, Nola struggled further, giving up a hit and two walks, leaving the bases loaded before he exited the game. The Mets capitalized on this opportunity with a two-out, two-RBI single from Starling Marte, putting them ahead 4-0.

Alonso, who had one hit in two at-bats along with two walks, also homered in the previous game against the Phillies and has now accumulated three home runs in the playoffs, including the Wild Card game.

Manaea showcased dominance on the mound, allowing only two hits through his first seven innings without surrendering a run. However, he was pulled in the eighth after allowing a hit, and the Phillies scored their first run of the game thanks to a timely hit from Bryce Harper, which went against Manaea’s record.

Manaea’s final line stood at 91 pitches over 7 innings, with three hits, one run, six strikeouts, and two walks, finishing the game with a 2.25 ERA and earning the win. In contrast, Nola pitched 5 innings with 86 pitches, giving up five hits, including two home runs, and four runs, with eight strikeouts and two walks, resulting in a 7.20 ERA.

As Manaea left the field, Mets fans honored him with applause. He remarked, “It’s a surprising honor. These fans have amazed me all year long, and being able to pitch against the Phillies and achieve this kind of performance is an incredible experience.”
