In a recent interview regarding the newly established youth curling training facilities in Liaoning Province, I spoke with key figures involved in the initiative. The award ceremony for the Liaoning Provincial Youth Curling Training Base and the Shenyang Youth Curling Training Base took place at the Korean First High School in Shenyang, a significant event marking a new chapter for the school in the sport of curling.
With the recent push of the national strategy for developing winter sports, curling has seen rapid popularity and growth in Liaoning Province. The collaboration between the Liaoning Winter Sports Management Center and the Shenyang Sports Development Center aims to prepare for the upcoming 2026 Liaoning Winter Games and the 2028 National Winter Games. They hope to promote the wider practice of ice sports and nurture talented young curlers.
Prior to the award ceremony, I learned that the Korean First High School celebrated outstanding athletes who excelled in the “2024 Liaoning Provincial Youth Curling U-Series Championship.” These young talents were recognized for their remarkable skills and tenacious spirit, with champions, runners-up, and third-place winners taking the stage to accept their awards.
After the ceremony, Party Secretary Zheng Taicheng expressed the school’s commitment to leveraging these new training resources. He emphasized the school’s role in advancing curling not only in Liaoning but across the nation.
The school plans to uphold the principle of integrating sports and education, effectively utilizing the training base to contribute further to the development of youth curling. A representative from the school expressed excitement about the prospect of producing even more exceptional curling talents who will enhance the sport’s reputation in Liaoning and beyond.
