Kate Bush shares plans to make new music- ‘I’ve got lots of ideas’

In a rare interview coinciding with the release of her short film, English singer Kate Bush expressed her eagerness to return to the music scene, revealing, “I’m very keen to make a new album. I’ve got lots of ideas… it’s been a long time.”

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today program on Friday, the 66-year-old Bush shared her excitement about exploring her creative potential. “I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space,” she said.

Bush first shot to fame in 1978 with her iconic debut single “Wuthering Heights” and is celebrated for other hits like “Babooshka” and “King of the Mountain.” She experienced a resurgence in popularity in 2022 when her 1985 hit “Running Up That Hill” was featured in the Netflix series *Stranger Things*, leading to a global re-entry on music charts. Her last album, *50 Words for Snow*, was released in 2011.

Typically private, Bush spoke with the BBC mainly to promote her new short film, *Little Shrew*, which she both wrote and directed to raise funds for children impacted by war. This four-minute animated feature, set to her 2011 track “Snowflake,” aims to inspire viewers to donate to the international charity War Child. The film features a little shrew seeking hope in a war-torn city.

“I started working on it a couple of years ago, not long after the war in Ukraine broke out,” Bush explained. “It was such a shock for all of us after living through a long period of peace. I felt compelled to create this little animation to highlight how horrific the situation is for children.”

The film is available for free viewing on her website.

When asked if she was currently working on new material, Bush told host Emma Barnett, “Not at the moment, but I’ve been immersed in a lot of archival work these past few years, redesigning our website and putting together a lyric book. I’m very eager to begin working on a new album once that’s all wrapped up. I have plenty of ideas and I’m truly looking forward to diving back into that creative space; it’s been a long time.”

When pressed on whether this has been on her mind for a while, she affirmed, “Yes, it really has. Especially over the last year, I’ve felt ready to start something new.”
