In an emotional reunion that brought tears to many, a girl who had been abducted expressed with conviction, “These are my biological parents!” inside a conference room on the third floor of the Jinzhong City Public Security Bureau. As soon as her parents arrived, her mother, who had been holding back tears, broke down in a heartfelt embrace with her daughter. On October 21, local police reported that they had assisted this couple in locating their missing daughter after 24 long years.
Reflecting on the day their daughter went missing, the father, Mr. Ling, recounted the events to the officers: “It was around 5 PM on August 7, 2000, when we were returning from the amusement park. She must have been tired from playing because she fell asleep on the way back. I carried her for a while, but eventually, I couldn’t bear the weight any longer and woke her up. After she woke up, she started to run around, and little did I know, that would be the last time I carried her.”
Mr. Ling added, “We immediately mobilized family members and workers to search for her, but after a long and fruitless search, we couldn’t find her.”
For 24 years, the couple never ceased their quest to find their daughter. They put up posters, took out ads in the newspaper, and inquired in surrounding areas, but each lead ended in disappointment. The pain of their loss weighed heavily on them throughout the years.
Recently, a breakthrough occurred. The Jinzhong City Public Security Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Team received a request for assistance from the Shenzhen Futian Police regarding a case of child trafficking they had cracked.
Through careful analysis and investigations, the team discovered a young woman named Li who matched the profile of their missing child. They collaborated with the North Street Police Station to collect her photographs and DNA for verification. Following a match conducted by the Jinzhong City Criminal Technology Division, it was confirmed that Li was indeed the child reported missing. On October 17, her parents traveled from Shenzhen to Jinzhong, where they were finally reunited with their daughter, separated for 24 years, in the presence of law enforcement.
The mother carefully retrieved a collection of items from her bag, including old photographs, a police report, and missing person flyers—meticulously preserved over the two decades, each one a testament to her enduring hope.
