In a recent interview with Israeli media outlet ynetnews, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi confirmed that out of 13 high-ranking members of Hezbollah, 11 have been killed in IDF operations. The only remaining leaders are Hashem Safieddine, the successor to Hassan Nasrallah, and intelligence chief Ali Hussein Hazima, both of whom are currently unaccounted for.
Halevi indicated that Hezbollah is concealing the full scale of its casualties and fabricating reports of IDF losses, highlighting the difficult situation the organization finds itself in. He stated that as Hezbollah confronts increasingly severe challenges, the Israeli military will “increase pressure to protect our troops while targeting their intelligence personnel.”
Speaking to an Arabic program in the U.S., IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari provided a list of Hezbollah members killed since the onset of the conflict. This list includes leaders such as Nasrallah, the head of Hezbollah’s missile and rocket forces Ibrahim Muhammad Qubaisi, southern front commander Ali Karaki, and the commander of the Radwan Unit, Ibrahim Aqil.
Other notable casualties include Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah’s top military commander, Sheikh Nabil Qaouk from the preventative security unit, and several key operatives involved in weapons transport and air defense.
Reuters reported that on October 16, an Israeli airstrike on the city of Nabatieh, the capital of the Nabatieh Governorate in southern Lebanon, resulted in at least six deaths, including the mayor, Ahmed Kahil.
Both Hezbollah and Hamas, with backing from Iran, are currently engaged in conflict with Israel. Despite growing concerns in the U.S. over increasing casualties and fears of a broader regional conflict, Israel carried out additional strikes in Nabatieh on October 16.
During this period, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected any notions of a ceasefire in Lebanon, stating that allowing Hezbollah to escalate its attacks could lead to heightened threats at Israel’s northern border.
Netanyahu’s comments come as the U.S. has ramped up pressure on Israel regarding its military actions in Lebanon and Gaza, criticizing recent bombings in Beirut and advocating for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza.
