On October 17, a signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation framework agreement was held in Zhaodong City, marking a significant milestone for the corn biofermentation industry in Heilongjiang Province. This event was organized by the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Suifenhe Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, the Zhaodong City People’s Government, and the Heilongjiang Provincial Corn Industry Association. The agreement signifies the province’s commitment to nurturing a robust advanced manufacturing cluster in corn biomanufacturing and establishing a new hub for the development of corn biofermentation.
In recent years, Zhaodong City has leveraged its resource advantages and industrial foundations to progressively convert its corn resource strengths into economic and developmental advantages. The city is home to 11 large-scale corn biofermentation enterprises, with a designed annual processing capacity of 3.88 million tons. In 2023, these enterprises generated a production value of 5.57 billion yuan, which represents 35% of the large-scale corn deep processing industry in Suifenhe City and 11% of the province. Notable leaders in the sector, such as COFCO Biochemical, Zhaodong Xinghu, and Chengfu, are rapidly growing, contributing to a diverse range of over 20 major deep-processed products, including corn oil, edible alcohol, adenosine, and guanosine. As the industry continues to expand, the corn biofermentation sector in Zhaodong has become a vital part of the advanced manufacturing cluster for corn biomanufacturing in the Suihua-Daqi region.
The collaboration among the provincial, municipal, county officials, and industry association aims to create a more robust mechanism for promoting the industry. By leveraging each party’s roles, the initiative intends to direct advantageous resources toward focused industrial zones, offering coordinated support for the sustained growth of Zhaodong’s corn biofermentation industry. This effort seeks to quickly cultivate new growth points and innovative models for industry chain collaboration, aiding in solidifying the advancement of a new type of industrialization and the development of new productive forces.
Currently, Heilongjiang Province leads the nation in corn planting area, production, and processing capabilities. The four cities of Suifenhe, Harbin, Daqing, and Qiqihar collectively account for nearly 17.5 million tons of corn processing capacity, representing 55% of the province’s total. This results in an annual production value nearing 63 billion yuan, comprising 77% of the province’s output.
