Flushing massage parlor murders wife, 2 children trapped, horns raise funds

On the 14th, the Christian Cornerstone Evangelical Mission held a press conference in Flushing to announce their fundraising efforts for the family of the victim in last month’s tragic murder case. The gathering aimed to support the family of the late Tang Guimei, who was killed by her husband, Ma Qihai, during a domestic dispute. The couple’s children, ages four and six, are currently in the care of their grandmother, who is struggling financially and urgently seeking assistance.

Ellen Yang, a senior advisor from State Assemblyman Kim Deisy’s office, joined the conference to rally community support for the family. She highlighted the grandmother’s challenges, stating that due to her physical and emotional exhaustion, she had considered giving up care of the two children.

The incident, which occurred on September 9, involved a heated argument between the couple that escalated into violence, resulting in Ma Qihai being charged with multiple felonies and facing life imprisonment. In the wake of the situation, Yang and the Cornerstone Mission have mobilized resources to assist the family, including organizing arrangements for the victim’s remains, which will be cremated and sent back to China for burial.

Yang also emphasized the critical need for mental health awareness in the community, particularly in high-stress situations. She noted that in addition to the Cornerstone Mission’s resources, the Asian American Medical Association is working to enhance mental health services through state funding.

Lu Yongli, vice president of the Guizhou Association, shared that they have been in contact with local authorities in China to assist with the children’s education and coordinate financial aid for the family. On the day of the funeral, the association expressed their condolences by providing a floral arrangement. Lu expressed gratitude for the community’s generous donations, stating that this support is invaluable for a family facing such hardships.

Pastor Chen Chi, the executive director of the Cornerstone Mission, addressed the challenges faced by many new immigrants, such as language barriers and access to jobs. He underlined the importance of guidance and resources to prevent emotional distress, which can lead to harmful behavior. He reminded the audience that any criminal behavior can drastically affect one’s status and future in the United States.

Currently, the two young children of Tang Guimei and Ma Qihai remain in Guizhou, China, in urgent need of support. The community is encouraged to contribute to their education and daily living expenses through the donation link: https://reurl.cc/pvbknr, with funds directed to their eldest daughter, Ma Yuxuan.
