In a tragic incident, a devastating motor accident has claimed the lives of 19 individuals at Hawan Kibo, a community located on the outskirts of Jos along the Abuja-Jos highway in the Riyom Local Government Council of Plateau State.
The accident involved a bus traveling from Adamawa to Abuja, and sadly, all 19 passengers on board lost their lives. Peter Yakubu, the spokesman for the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating, “No one survived; everyone in the vehicle perished.” He further added that the only person who didn’t die at the scene was taken to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total fatalities to 19.
A staff member at Riyom Trauma Hospital shared their experience, saying, “All the victims we received had already passed away. Some of the bodies were so severely mutilated that identification was very difficult. Currently, all the corpses have been transferred to a morgue in Jos due to a power outage in the Riyom Local Government area.”
The bus was en route from Adamawa State to Abuja when the incident occurred. Hawan Kibo has been notorious for being a perilous stretch of the Abuja-Jos highway, where poor road conditions have led to countless accidents over the years, resulting in the tragic loss of hundreds of lives. Additionally, the area has gained a reputation as a hotspot for robbery, further exacerbated by its difficult terrain.
