On October 15, reporters from China News reported an incident involving a fishing boat sinking in the waters near Wafangdian City, Dalian, Liaoning Province. Fortunately, one fisherman on board was rescued.
According to the Beihai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, the local maritime search and rescue center alerted them that a fishing vessel was on the verge of sinking and urgently requested assistance. The Bureau responded by dispatching a rescue helicopter, designated “B-7312,” stationed in Dalian.
Upon arrival at the scene, the helicopter crew encountered challenging conditions, with winds blowing at force eight. They spotted a fisherman precariously clinging to the shaking mast of the nearly submerged vessel. The situation was dire as the fisherman was showing signs of hypothermia, with most of the boat already underwater, leaving only the mast visible.
Complicating the rescue was the absence of standard winch operation points, which added significant difficulties to the operation. Faced with this urgent scenario, the crew quickly assessed the situation. The pilot maneuvered the helicopter to hover above the fisherman, while the winch operator prepared the rescue equipment. A rescue diver was lowered near the mast, where he skillfully grasped the top of the mast, secured himself, and prepared to assist the distressed fisherman by fitting him with a rescue harness.
Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the crew successfully completed this high-risk operation, pulling the fisherman from danger and safely transporting him to a nearby dock.
