Chinese convoy encountered terrorist attack in Pakistan, the United Nations Security Council strongly condemned it

On October 8th, local time, the United Nations Security Council released a statement strongly condemning the recent terrorist attack on a convoy of Chinese companies in Karachi, Pakistan, as reported on the UN’s official website.

During this statement, Security Council members expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the governments of both China and Pakistan, wishing a speedy recovery for those injured. They reiterated the notion that all forms of terrorism present a serious threat to global peace and security.

The members emphasized the urgent need to hold accountable those who are behind this attack, including the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and supporters. They stressed the importance of bringing these individuals to justice and called for all nations to actively cooperate with the governments of China and Pakistan, as well as relevant authorities, in accordance with international law and pertinent Security Council resolutions.

In their statement, they pointed out that any act of terrorism, irrespective of its motives or the identities of the perpetrators, is simply unacceptable. All countries are encouraged to utilize every means at their disposal to combat terrorist activities that jeopardize international peace and security, in alignment with the obligations outlined in the UN Charter, international law, and further commitments under international human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law.

Earlier reports from the Chinese embassy in Pakistan revealed that around 11 PM local time on October 6th, a convoy belonging to the China-funded Qasim Port Power Company was attacked near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. This assault resulted in the tragic deaths of two Chinese nationals, injuries to another, and additional casualties among Pakistani personnel.

The Chinese embassy strongly condemned the terrorist act, expressing deep sorrow for the victims from both nations and offering sincere condolences to the injured and their families. They also advised Chinese citizens, businesses, and projects in Pakistan to stay vigilant, closely monitor the local security situation, reinforce security measures, and implement effective safety precautions.
