In efforts to reduce the burden of formalism on grassroots organizations, central authorities have clearly stated the need to “further standardize the creation of demonstration and compliance activities, focusing on practicality and effectiveness.”
The initiative to establish demonstration projects and compliance activities aims to leverage exemplary cases to enhance overall work quality and advance effective implementation. However, as with many things, moderation is key; excessive frequency or poorly timed activities can dilute their impact. This is especially true when initiatives are disconnected from local development realities, leading to “campaign-style,” “showcase,” or fleeting efforts, which can divert limited grassroots resources, disrupt the daily lives of community members, and potentially result in “window-dressing” projects that waste valuable resources.
Real achievements come from genuine efforts. When it comes to evaluations, demonstrations, and compliance, the emphasis should be on practical outcomes. It is essential to ensure that each activity accurately addresses community needs, effectively solves real problems, and promotes sustainable economic and social development.
To truly implement these initiatives, it’s vital to employ a variety of approaches. Ecological and environmental oversight, exemplary case reporting, and public scrutiny not only provide guidance but also serve to motivate improvement. By adapting strategies to local contexts and focusing on quality rather than quantity, we can better drive progress. (Zhao Zheng)
