ASEAN-China, Japan and South Korea Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement Roundtable Dialogue held

On October 17, a roundtable dialogue on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) among ASEAN, China, Japan, and South Korea took place in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province. Shizhongjun, the Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Center, emphasized that the full implementation of RCEP serves as a new driving force for economic integration in Asia, effectively unlocking the enormous potential of the regional market.

RCEP, initiated by ASEAN and involving China, aims to enhance market vitality among member countries, promote bilateral trade growth, and facilitate a high-level opening of the region. During the dialogue, Shizhongjun remarked, “Today we convene this roundtable to discuss RCEP’s role in facilitating trade and investment in the region, as well as to gather specific concerns and recommendations from businesses regarding the implementation process. We hope for an open and constructive exchange of ideas.”

He highlighted that RCEP has laid a solid foundation for deeper communication and cooperation between ASEAN and Northeast Asian countries through its complementary and inclusive industrial chain division system, presenting new opportunities for enhancing regional economic connectivity. He urged both government departments and the business community to seize this opportunity by:

1. Strengthening collaboration on the implementation arrangements of the agreement to create a service platform aimed at businesses, helping them better understand RCEP rules and mechanisms, so as to enhance their benefits and sense of gain, ultimately achieving win-win and multi-win outcomes.

2. Enhancing effective connections among government entities, trade and investment promotion organizations, and enterprises. This involves leveraging the power of RCEP’s integrated industrial and supply chains to establish complementary industries across countries, optimize resource allocation, and assist businesses in their transformation and upgrading to improve quality and efficiency.

3. Adapting to the trends of technological development. The business sector should actively explore new areas of regional cooperation, continually innovate operational strategies, and utilize new models, such as e-commerce, to develop new pathways and opportunities for growth.

“Development remains the foremost task for all countries in the region. The China-ASEAN Center continuously collaborates with local governments to promote the high-quality implementation of RCEP, helping businesses within the region better enjoy the benefits of free trade agreements,” Shizhongjun concluded.
