At approximately 2 PM on October 21, the Singapore-registered ship “Oriental Orchid,” carrying around 66,300 tons of yellow soybeans from Brazil, successfully docked at the logistics terminal of Xiao Cuo Port in Quanzhou. This marks the 16th soybean import vessel inspected by the Xiao Cuo Border Inspection Station this year, contributing to a total import of 777,200 tons of yellow soybeans, which represents an impressive year-on-year growth of 35.8%.
The imported yellow soybeans primarily serve the Yihai Kerry Quanzhou Fu Hai Grain and Oil Industries Co., Ltd., which operates soybean crushing plants, crude oil refining facilities, small packaging workshops, rice processing units, and palm oil extraction workshops. With an annual production capacity exceeding 2 million tons, the company provides employment for over 2,000 people, playing a vital role in ensuring food security and price stability in the region.
To facilitate the smooth customs clearance of essential livelihood supplies, the Xiao Cuo Border Inspection Station proactively collected information on incoming vessels. They implemented a tailored approach for each company, collaborating with customs and maritime authorities to form a specialized working group. This group adopted a “joint boarding” inspection model, enabling them to complete customs procedures in a single step, thus maximizing the efficiency of vessel clearance operations. Additionally, stringent port controls have been put into place, utilizing video surveillance and manual inspections to enhance oversight during the vessels’ stay at the port, ensuring the efficient unloading and seamless passage of yellow soybeans.
