Writer’s ‘disco classic’ finally sees light of day

**Interviewer:** Mark, it’s incredible to see “One Step (After Another)” finally making its debut after 50 years. Can you tell us about the journey of this song from when you first penned it in the 1970s to its release now with Miss Disco?

**Mark Wesley:** Absolutely! I wrote the song back in the 1970s while I was working as a DJ at Radio Luxembourg. At that time, though, I felt that the music scene had shifted, and there just wasn’t an appetite for what I considered “cheesy” music anymore. So, despite my enthusiasm, the song ended up collecting dust as I figured nobody would be interested in it.

**Interviewer:** That must have been tough. What changed that led you to offer the song to Miss Disco?

**Mark Wesley:** Well, two years ago, I saw the local band Miss Disco performing and I thought to myself, “These guys are perfect for this song.” They embrace that retro vibe, and I believed they could do justice to “One Step (After Another).” So I reached out to them.

**Interviewer:** And it sounds like they were on board right away?

**Sue Darwar (Lead Vocalist of Miss Disco):** From the moment we heard the song, we were all in love with it. It just screamed “disco classic.” It’s catchy, and we knew we had to bring it to life.

**Interviewer:** The song has even received a shout-out from Craig Revel Horwood from Strictly Come Dancing! How does that feel?

**Mark Wesley:** It’s absolutely fantastic! Craig called it a “fab-u-lous” disco classic, and having that kind of endorsement just blows my mind. It feels like the song is finally where it belongs—in the spotlight!

**Interviewer:** Looking back at your career, you’ve also produced jingles and authored novels. How does songwriting fit into your journey?

**Mark Wesley:** I’ve always loved writing, whether it’s songs, jingles, or books. However, after writing “One Step (After Another),” I encountered a moment where I thought, “That’s not going anywhere.” Yet life moves on, and I poured my energy into other projects. But now, seeing it performed again makes it all worthwhile.

**Interviewer:** It’s amazing how things come full circle. What are your hopes for the song’s future?

**Mark Wesley:** My hope is simply that people enjoy it. If this song can bring joy and make people want to get up and dance, then I’ve achieved what I set out to do.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, Mark and Sue, for sharing your inspiring story. We’re excited to hear what’s next for both of you and Miss Disco!
