On October 24, the Cross-Strait Ancestral Culture Forum was held at the Taiwan Club in Beijing, organized by the Beijing Taiwan Affairs Office, the Beijing Taiwan Federation, and the Straits Publishing House. Nearly a hundred representatives and experts from both sides of the Taiwan Strait gathered to discuss the theme of “Innovation and Transmission of Cross-Strait Ancestral Culture.”
Yuan Haipeng, Secretary of the Beijing Taiwan Federation, delivered a speech highlighting the significance of ancestral culture as a crucial component of traditional Chinese culture. He noted that it carries the shared historical memories and familial ties of people on both sides of the Strait and serves as an essential foundation for achieving spiritual resonance between them. Yuan emphasized that interactions between ancestral groups from Beijing and Taiwan have been steadily increasing in recent years. Researching and passing down ancestral culture is vital for enhancing ethnic identity among people across the Strait and promoting peaceful development of cross-Strait relations. This forum, bringing together forces from Beijing, Fujian, and Taiwan, aims to establish a new bridge for cross-Strait communication and inject new vitality into cultural exchanges.
Dou Weilang, the head of the Straits Publishing House, pointed out that people on both sides share common roots, culture, and heritage, and it is imperative to jointly preserve China’s excellent traditional culture. He described ancestral ties as an indispensable part of Chinese civilization and culture, forming a natural bond of emotional unity and national identity that is particularly relevant for people across the Strait. Dou suggested that this forum serves as a platform to promote and carry forward ancestral culture, highlighting its significant role in cross-Strait exchanges.
Experts from institutions such as the Taiwan Research Institute of Beijing Union University, the Fujian Kaimin Surname Culture Research Institute, and the Kinmen Xiao Clan Association discussed various topics, including “The Origins and Transmission of Cross-Strait Ancestral Culture” and “The Characteristics and Development of Taiwanese Ancestral Culture.” They focused on sharing insights regarding the historical roots and contemporary values of ancestral culture between the two sides.
Additionally, the forum witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting innovative development of ancestral culture, with a commitment to strengthen cross-Strait research and exchanges, as well as to establish a distinctive brand for the Cross-Strait Ancestral Culture Forum.
