Nanchang, Jiangxi- It’s the right time to plant rapeseed, and agricultural machinery and technology help autumn sowing

As we stand at a critical juncture for rapeseed planting, farmers in Tangnan Town, Nanchang County, Jiangxi Province, are seizing the moment to accelerate mechanized cultivation, setting the stage for a bountiful harvest next year.

Overhead, drones equipped for agricultural tasks buzz rhythmically as operators deftly guide them to sow rapeseed. “We now use drones to sow rapeseed seeds, and it only takes about a minute per acre to finish planting,” says Huang Huiping, a farmer from Fusheng Village. “I’ve planted over 100 acres this year, and it only took me two hours. It’s so much easier and less labor-intensive. If I were to transplant by hand, it would have taken at least two weeks. Mechanization is truly convenient.” He highlights how drone technology not only overcomes terrain challenges but also ensures a more uniform seed distribution, thereby saving time and enhancing productivity.

“We’ve mobilized staff to provide technical guidance in the fields and are actively promoting mechanized seeding or aerial sowing techniques to encourage local farmers to plant rapeseed,” explains Chen Xihe, the head of the Agricultural Service Center in Tangnan Town. “This year, our goal is to plant 13,000 acres of rapeseed, and we expect to complete the process by early November.”

In addition, in the Qingshan Lake District of Nanchang City, local authorities have allocated 98,000 yuan for purchasing rapeseed seeds to ensure smooth wheat and rapeseed planting this fall and winter. Agricultural technicians have been dispatched to the fields to promote mechanized operations and provide technical support, actively informing farmers about relevant policies and the benefits of planting, transforming “idle winter fields” into “income-generating fields.”

Using integrated tilling and sowing machines can streamline the entire process, taking only about 10 minutes per acre. “This method not only saves over 200 yuan in costs compared to traditional rapeseed planting but also boosts yields,” says Xiong Shanlian from Jiangxi Lvneng Agricultural Development Company. This year, his business has leased over 2,600 acres of farmland for a rice-rapeseed rotation in Luojia Town, Qingshan Lake District.

Mechanized equipment is critical for improving rapeseed production quality and efficiency. To enhance the level of mechanization in rapeseed cultivation, Nanchang City is actively encouraging farmers to efficiently utilize integrated tilling, seeding, and fertilizing machines, thus accelerating planting progress and reducing production costs.
