A 4-year-old Chinese boy was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while walking alone on 8th Avenue.

On the afternoon of October 7th, a tragic incident took place near 8th Avenue in Brooklyn, where a four-year-old Chinese boy sustained severe head injuries after being struck by a vehicle while walking alone on the street. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, and he is currently in critical condition. The driver responsible for the accident has been arrested by police.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Fort Hamilton Parkway and 59th Street, not far from a small park. Around 4:30 PM, two four-year-old twin boys stepped out of their home, just a block from where the accident happened, and found themselves walking on a busy street.

Witnesses reported that as one of the twins crossed the road near a supermarket to reach the park, he was hit by a passing car, leading to significant head injuries. Disturbing photographs from the scene showed the child’s clothes soaked in blood, highlighting the gravity of his condition. Fortunately, his twin brother was unharmed. Reports indicate that the boys come from a family of immigrants from Fuzhou.

Eyewitnesses mentioned that the driver stopped immediately after the collision and remained at the scene. This driver has since been taken into custody. Accounts suggest the accident wasn’t caused by high-speed driving but occurred amidst heavy traffic. At the time of the incident, a yellow school bus was behind the vehicle that struck the boy, and it appears the driver may have become impatient with the slow-moving cars, accelerating without realizing the young child was crossing.

Emergency services and police were prompt in their response, providing immediate assistance to the boy before transporting him to Maimonides Medical Center for further treatment. The boy’s mother arrived at the hospital shortly after the incident, understandably frantic, and she remains at her son’s side as his health hangs in the balance.

In light of the accident, State Senator John Liu reached out to the NYPD’s 66th precinct and contacted community organizations familiar with the family. Liu’s office has stated it will continue coordinating with the police and the hospital to gather updates and offer support to the child and his parents.

Nicole Huang, head of a New York parent support group, expressed her concern over how the four-year-old twins ended up on a busy street while still in their pajamas, highlighting a possible lapse in parental supervision. She stressed the vital importance of closely monitoring children to prevent such tragic occurrences and warned that the consequences of neglect can be severe.
