Burger Battle- Habit congratulates rival In-N-Out for taking second place

At Los Angeles International Airport, travelers can’t help but notice a bold sign that reads, “Congrats to In-N-Out for taking second place!” This attention-grabbing display comes on the heels of a recent ranking by USA Today, which named Habit Burger & Grill’s Double Charburger as the best burger, while In-N-Out’s iconic Double-Double claimed the second spot. Although Habit Burger & Grill is the newer player in this competition, having been founded in 1969, they are clearly intent on making their mark, rather than allowing the venerable In-N-Out, established in 1948, to fade into the background.

KTLA reports that Habit Burger & Grill is taking proactive measures to remind everyone, particularly In-N-Out, that they now hold the title of having the best burger, according to USA Today. In addition to the prominent airport sign, the chain has launched a series of congratulatory billboards along California highways.

Their marketing efforts don’t stop there. Habit is also promoting this achievement through full-page ads in newspapers, influencer marketing campaigns, and even an exciting initiative that sent burgers into space for National Cheeseburger Day.

Jack Hinchliffe, the Chief Marketing Officer of Habit Burger & Grill, shared insights about the competitive burger landscape, stating that it is filled with a myriad of options. Securing the second spot in such a crowded field is something to celebrate, he emphasized, noting that second place should not be seen merely as a consolation, but rather a significant accomplishment. He added that Habit has immense respect for its competitors, saying their playful congratulatory message to In-N-Out is heartfelt.

Founded in 1969 in Santa Barbara, originally as “Hamburger Habit,” Habit Burger & Grill has grown significantly since. Today, it boasts 380 locations across 14 states and has even begun branching out internationally.

Their signature Double Charburger features two char-grilled beef patties topped with caramelized onions, fresh lettuce, and tomatoes, with cheese available as an option.

In contrast, In-N-Out Burger opened its first location in Baldwin Park, California, in 1948. The chain made its name in California before expanding into the western United States and southern states, and it has recently set its sights on entering the eastern market.
