US military dispatches B-2 bombers to attack Houthi armed forces in Yemen

On October 16, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced a significant military operation involving the deployment of B-2 stealth bombers to carry out precision strikes on five underground weapon storage sites controlled by Houthi forces in Yemen.

In his statement, Austin emphasized that the targets of the U.S. military’s actions were multiple underground facilities used by the Houthis to store various weapon components intended for attacks on both civilian and military vessels in the region. The use of the B-2 Spirit long-range stealth bombers underscored the United States’ capability to strike such targets whenever necessary, anywhere in the world.

The operation follows a major incident on September 27, when Houthi forces launched an assault against three U.S. Navy ships in the Red Sea, employing 23 missiles and a drone. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree described this as the largest attack by the group since November of last year.

Since the outbreak of renewed conflict between Israel and Palestine last October, the Houthis have conducted multiple strikes on targets in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea regions. From January 12 onward, both the U.S. and the U.K. have carried out repeated airstrikes against Houthi positions, resulting in casualties.
