Shanghai team wins 2024 China Women’s 3×3 Basketball League Championship

Last weekend, the 2024 season of the China Women’s 3×3 Basketball League (3WL) concluded its championship finals in Pingtan, Fujian. The Shanghai Pudong Development Bank team triumphed over the two-time reigning champions, Sichuan Yuanda Meile, clinching their first-ever 3WL championship title. Pan Xuemei was named the Most Valuable Player of the finals.

The 3WL league, developed by the Chinese Basketball Association, is the premier women’s 3×3 basketball competition in the country, featuring a total of 10 teams. The 2024 season included six stages of regular matches and 183 playoff games. After intense competition, the defending champions Sichuan and Shanghai emerged as finalists.

This year’s finals took place in Pingtan, with Huati Sports overseeing the event execution. From the onset of the final, the teams exchanged leads, with Shanghai slightly ahead at 8-7 by the first timeout. Upon returning from the break, Pan Xuemei maintained her scoring streak with a series of successful long-range shots. However, Sichuan quickly caught up with scores from Gao Song and Zhang Wang, tying the game at 10-10.

Pan Xuemei and Li Yingyun’s three-pointers allowed Shanghai to regain the lead, but the resilient Sichuan team, led by Gao Song and Jia Saqi, fought back to level the score again. With just 1 minute and 30 seconds left on the clock, the score stood at 18-18. In a decisive moment, Li Yingyun sank a three-pointer for the “game-winner,” leading Shanghai to a 21-19 victory and their first 3WL championship. Pan Xuemei’s impressive performance secured her 10 points and the FMVP title.

Prior to the 3WL finals, Pingtan hosted the concluding match of this season’s Super 3 League satellite competition. Teams like Fujian Miracle emerged victorious, securing spots to compete for qualification in the Super 3 League against the bottom five teams from the league standings. According to the regulations, the team finishing first in the playoffs will gain direct entry into the 2025 season of the Super 3 League.
