On October 14, 2024, the “Industrial Mother Machine+” event aimed at facilitating production and demand connections was held in Chongqing. The city’s industrial mother machine sector has surpassed an impressive 10 billion yuan in total industrial chain output value. This initiative is designed to foster collaboration between user enterprises and research units, creating a robust platform for supply and demand integration.

Industrial mother machines, often referred to as the “heart of the national economy,” are vital components in smart manufacturing equipment, encompassing a wide range of machinery and tools essential for various manufacturing processes.

Chongqing is recognized as a major industrial hub in China. During the event, it was reported that there are currently 46 key enterprises in the city’s industrial mother machine sector, collectively generating an annual output value of 10 billion yuan. Among these, 26 are primary enterprises producing industrial mother machines, contributing 5.5 billion yuan annually. The Chongqing Economic and Information Commission has recently developed the “Chongqing Industrial Mother Machine Industry High-Quality Development Action Plan (2024-2027),” which outlines five main objectives, six task lists, and four support measures, with a focus on implementing the “5664” special project to enhance the quality of industrial mother machine development and elevate foundational manufacturing capabilities.

At the event, five key industrial mother machine companies, including Chongqing Machine Tool (Group) Co., Ltd., Chongqing Honggang CNC Machine Tool Co., Ltd., Chongqing Jiangdong Machinery Co., Ltd., Chongqing Mofang Precision Technology Co., Ltd., and General Technology Group National Measurement Technology Co., Ltd., presented their products and solutions. A total of 68 projects were signed, amounting to a remarkable 2 billion yuan.

In a keynote address, Li Jingying, Deputy Director of the National Industrial Mother Machine Innovation Research Institute, discussed the current challenges and opportunities facing China’s industrial mother machine industry. She emphasized the need to address significant issues such as implicit monopolies, inadequate top-level design, a disconnect in high-end supporting components, deficiencies in core technologies, and scattered innovation resources. For industrial growth, she suggested integrating advantageous innovation resources and establishing a comprehensive product technology innovation system, alongside building common technology innovation service platforms.

Tu Xingyong, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Chongqing Economic and Information Commission, outlined the city’s next steps. He stated that Chongqing will focus on promoting innovation by implementing significant technological breakthroughs, constructing innovation platforms, and enhancing high-end product development. The city aims to create distinctive industrial mother machine products and establish an innovation platform recognizable to Chongqing’s identity. Additionally, efforts will be made to foster collaboration between enterprises along the industrial chain, encourage the growth of specialized and high-quality enterprises, and facilitate the creation of demonstration application scenarios for innovative achievements in the industrial mother machine field. Finally, there will be a strong push to leverage policies aimed at promoting the first set of major technical equipment and applications in the “Industrial Mother Machine+” context, assisting companies in expanding their market presence.
