Comrade Wu Bangguo’s body was cremated in Beijing, and Xi Jinping went to Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery to bid farewell

The remains of Comrade Wu Bangguo were cremated at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing on October 14th. The ceremony saw notable figures such as Xi Jinping, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng in attendance to pay their final respects. Former President Hu Jintao also sent a wreath to express his condolences.

During his illness and following his passing, many leaders, including Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, Han Zheng, and Hu Jintao, visited Wu Bangguo in the hospital or expressed their deep sorrow through various means to both him and his family.

On the morning of the 14th, the hall at Babaoshan was solemn and somber, filled with the sounds of mourning music. A banner inscribed with “Deepest condolences to Comrade Wu Bangguo” hung above a portrait of Wu. His remains lay amongst a bed of flowers and evergreens, draped in the bright red flag of the Communist Party of China.

At approximately 9:30 AM, Xi Jinping, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng approached Wu’s remains to stand in silence, bowing three times in tribute. They also shook hands with his family members to offer their condolences. Hu Jintao’s wreath further signified the collective mourning of Wu’s passing.

Leaders from the Party and government, along with representatives from Wu Bangguo’s friendship circles and his hometown, also came to pay their respects.
