In a recent interview, Julie, the daughter of a 71-year-old man who was violently attacked in Irvine, California, shared her family’s distressing ordeal. The incident took place on October 1, near the intersection of Jamboree and Portola Parkway, in broad daylight.
According to NBC News, surveillance footage showed a young man wearing a white shirt and dark shorts jogging through the residential area. Without warning, he approached Julie’s father and began to shove him. Fearing for his safety, her father tried to escape but was relentlessly pursued by the assailant. He fell hard to the ground, where the attacker struck him several times before looming over him in a menacing manner.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity for her family’s safety, Julie recounted the moment of the attack: “He raised his head, and out of nowhere, this young man appeared and pushed him. My father instinctively tried to flee, but he fell hard, and that’s when the attacker continued to assault him.”
At the time of the assault, Julie mentioned that her father was merely standing in the driveway, getting ready to go to work. The brutal attack left him with multiple abrasions and knee injuries that required bandaging, not to mention the emotional impact on him and the family. They have reported the incident to local authorities, but as of now, no arrests have been made. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the attack is being investigated as a hate crime.
In a bid to seek justice and prevent similar events, Julie is sharing the video footage, hoping that someone might recognize the assailant. “This person might seem innocuous, just jogging down the street, but randomly attacking residents is unacceptable,” she said. She urges anyone with information about the case or who may recognize the suspect to contact the Irvine Police Department at 949-724-7000.
