On October 16, a reporter from China News Service learned from the Economic Investigation Division of the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau that the Economic Investigation Team of the Pengshui Public Security Bureau successfully cracked a significant bribery case involving non-state employees, with the amount involved reaching 25 million yuan.
In May of this year, while working on a case involving fraudulent litigation, officers from the Pengshui Economic Investigation Team discovered substantial evidence suggesting that a suspect, Jiang, was involved in bribery. A meticulous investigation led to information implicating high-level executives from a real estate company in accepting bribes. To expedite the resolution of this case, the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau directed the Pengshui Public Security Bureau to assemble a specialized team for the investigation.
By June, after gathering a wealth of evidence, the investigating officers promptly arrested the suspect Wang, who was implicated in accepting bribes. The investigation revealed that during his tenure at a real estate company in 2017, Wang was responsible for overseeing the acquisition of a particular real estate project. Faced with the prospect of multi-billion yuan transactions typical in the real estate sector, Wang harbored thoughts of illicit gain. Jiang, acting as the intermediary to facilitate the project acquisition, was equally well-versed in this corrupt practice. After several rounds of discussion, they reached an agreement: Wang would actively further the project’s acquisition, and Jiang would pay him a substantial kickback afterward. To avoid detection, they disguised their dealings by using affiliated companies to draft fraudulent contracts, attempting to obscure the true nature of their financial transactions. During interrogations, both suspects openly admitted to their roles in the bribery scheme.
Currently, Wang has been formally arrested on charges of accepting bribes as a non-state employee, and two properties purchased with his illicit earnings have been seized. Jiang is now facing criminal coercive measures for bribing a non-state employee. The authorities plan to transfer the case for prosecution in accordance with the law.
