On September 7th, Temple City was alive with the vibrant atmosphere of the “2024 Hi Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival,” marking the sixth consecutive year that the World Journal and the Temple City government have teamed up for this celebration. The event unfolded in front of Temple City Hall and along Las Tunas Drive, attracting large crowds and featuring the presence of several elected officials who came to honor the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In her opening remarks, World Journal President Yu Zhiqin spotlighted the festival’s diverse offerings. With over 70 unique booths, a lantern painting area, a photo op zone, a special lantern display wall, and an outdoor movie section, there was something for everyone. The main stage boasted a variety of performances throughout the day, culminating in an evening mooncake sharing event and a live lottery, creating a joyful atmosphere for all attendees.
Congresswoman Judy Chu, California Assemblymember Mike Fong, and other elected officials expressed their appreciation for the World Journal and Temple City’s efforts in promoting multicultural exchanges and celebrating the rich legacy of Asian cultures in America. Congressman Chu underscored the importance of the Mid-Autumn Festival for Asian families, marking the arrival of autumn as a time for family gatherings centered around delicious mooncakes, which truly reflect rich cultural traditions. Assemblymember Fong highlighted the significance of the recently passed SB 1354 bill, which acknowledges the contributions of the Asian Pacific Islander community to California and the nation; he remarked that events like this foster community bonds and help preserve Asian Pacific heritage.
Temple City Mayor Tom Chavez, Vice Mayor Vincent Yu, and City Councilmember Cynthia Sternquist also extended their gratitude to the World Journal and Temple City for orchestrating such a remarkable Mid-Autumn Festival for local residents.
Attendees were treated to an array of captivating performances on stage. From charming children’s skits to impressive displays of power and elegance by the kids from the Shaolin Kung Fu School, as well as exotic belly dancing and traditional Chinese dance steeped in classical beauty—each performance was a delightful showcase of diverse dance styles. The excitement peaked with a performance by the children’s band from the Star Factory Arts Academy, whose vibrant energy resonated with the audience. Local parent Ms. Zhang shared her pride and joy in watching her child perform on such a prominent platform, believing it to be a fantastic opportunity for growth and encouragement.
