On October 21, 2024, the Hubei-Taiwan Student and Teacher Youth Cultural Week officially kicked off in Wuhan, hosted by Hubei University of Technology. The event welcomed faculty and students from several Taiwanese institutions, including Chaoyang University of Technology, Hsing Wu University of Science and Technology, Shih Hsin University, and Feng Chia University, alongside local youth from Hubei, launching a six-day cultural exchange program.
In his opening remarks, Song Xiaochun, Vice President of Hubei University of Technology, emphasized that this cultural week aims to immerse participating students in the charm of Chinese culture and arts through a variety of activities, including art exhibitions, traditional experiences, and cultural visits. He expressed hope that this initiative would strengthen cooperation with Taiwanese universities in areas such as internships, industrial collaboration, entrepreneurship competitions, academic exchanges, and joint laboratory projects.
A teacher from Taiwan, Mr. Chen, shared his excitement about the cultural wealth of Hubei, stating, “With its deep cultural heritage and rich history, especially the enchanting Jingchu culture, this event offers a valuable opportunity for Taiwanese students and teachers to delve into outstanding traditional Chinese culture. Through exchanges and collaboration with their Hubei counterparts, we hope to promote the inheritance and innovation of Chinese culture together.”
After the opening ceremony, participants toured the Wooden Goose Hall, a Ming and Qing Furniture Museum located at Hubei University of Technology. The museum showcases over 300 pieces of exquisite Ming and Qing dynasty furniture, including chairs, tables, beds, cabinets, and various writing accessories, all noted for their ancient charm and intricate craftsmanship, which drew admiration from both Hubei and Taiwanese attendees.
In the coming days, the group will explore Wuhan’s historical and cultural districts to appreciate the city’s rich heritage and urban revitalization. They will visit the iconic Yellow Crane Tower to discover its enduring allure, the Hubei Provincial Museum to gain deeper insights into Jingchu culture, and the Three Gorges Dam to witness the grandeur of this national marvel.
